Effects of Vibration on a Coulomb Friction System
نویسنده
چکیده
Deformable systems that rely on dry friction for their proper functioning are widely found in many engineering applications such as bolted components, railway ballast. The design of these systems is usually considered from static point of view and employing Coulomb model of friction. This paper studies the effects of dynamic loading on the behavior of a two dimensional system by finite element modeling and by experiments. It was found that the functioning of the system can break down depending on the value of the set of amplitude of vibration, frequency and preload. There are domains in the space of these characteristics that the contact surfaces would be momentarily separated resulting in accumulative sliding, leading to failure in the system’s functioning.

Development of a New Dynamic Friction Model for Analytical Modeling of Elliptical Vibration Assisted Turning Process
A new dynamic friction model for modeling of elliptical vibration assisted turning (EVAT) was developed in this research. The periodic change of the friction force direction is known to be one of the most important causes of this phenomenon. In modeling of machining processes (including the EVAT process), static Coulomb friction model was employed by most of the researchers. Because of the peri...

متن کاملNon-Gaussian Velocity Distribution Function in a Vibrating Granular Bed
The simulation of granular particles in a quasi-two-dimensional container under vertical vibration as an experimental accessible model for granular gases is performed. The velocity distribution function obeys an exponential-like function during the vibration and deviates from the exponential function in free-cooling states. It is confirmed that this exponentiallike distribution function is prod...
متن کاملIdentifying Coulomb and Viscous Friction in Forced Dual - Damped Oscillators
This paper presents a method for estimating Coulomb and viscous friction coefficients from responses of a harmonically excited dual-damped oscillator with linear stiffness. The identification method is based on existing analytical solutions of non-sticking responses excited near resonance. The method is applicable if the damping ratio of viscous component can be considered small. The Coulomb an...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of Coulomb and HK Friction Models in 2D AFM-Based Nano-Manipulation: Sobol Method
Nanotechnology involves the ability to see and control individual atoms and molecules which are about 100 nanometer or smaller. One of the major tools used in this field is atomic force microscopy which uses a wealth of techniques to measure the topography and investigates the surface forces in nanoscale. Friction force is the representation of the surface interaction between two surfaces an...
